Resumo em outra língua: The Quadrilátero Ferrífeto (QF) is located in the southwest portion of the São Francisco Craton and has important iron ore reserves in the state of Minas Gerais. The ratio MH / MI (hematitic ore / itabiritic ores) in ROM over the last decades has been decreasing. Moreover, the sinter feed iron ore produced has become increasingly finer over the last few years compared to the situation of past decades. Thus, a considerable increase of -0.15mm fractions and a decrease of + 1.0mm in the ore has been observed. This change in sinter feed particle size characteristics has a strong negative impact on the sintering bed permeability, and consequently contributes to decreased productivity of conventional sintering processes. The unconventional HPS (Hybrid Pelletized Sinter) process, from Japanese technology, has been used as an alternative for sinter feed trend of reducing size distribution, however the effect of finer sinter feed with the introduction of itabirite concentrates into the ore mixture is not yet known in this process. In this context, the main objective of this work is to make a technological characterization of pellet feed mixtures, concentrate obtained from magnetic concentration of an itabirite ore, and hematitic sinter feed for use in HPS process. Initially, hematitic sinter feed and pellet feed were characterized. This characterization was made in terms of granulometry, chemistry, granulochemistry, mineralogy, water holding and properties analysis at high temperatures (liquid assimilation and liquid penetration). Subsequently, the efficiency of the quasi-particle formation (micropellotization) phenomenon of sintering mixtures was evaluated using sinter feed and pellet feed in a HPS pilot plant by evaluating the measurements of the granulation indices of these mixtures. The HPS pilot plant was then used to evaluate the performance of four sinter mixtures using sinter feed and pellet feed in different ratios (Mix 1 for hematitic sinter feed only, Mix 2 for 70% hematitic sinter feed and 30% pellet feed concentrate with coarser grain size, Mix 3 for 70% hematitic sinter feed and 30% pellet feed concentrate with same grain size as Mix 1, and finally Mix 4 for 60% hematitic sinter feed and 40% pellet feed concentrate with ore smaller grain size, with a 10% increase in the fraction <0.150mm compared to Mixture 1). After produced in the pilot plant, the sinter were characterized in terms of chemical, particle size, physical, metallurgical and mineralogical analysis. The SiO2 content of the concentrated pellet feed sample was lower than the hematitic sinter feed (4.05% and 5.80%, respectively) and, as expected, the granulometry of the former was considerably finer (72% fraction <0.150mm) compared to the second (38% fraction <0.150mm). Concerning mineralogy, the concentrated pellet feed sample presented a larger amount of lamellar hematite particles than the hematitic sinter feed, as well as a lower mineral liberation. The water holding test showed that the adherent fraction of the hematitic sinter feed has a slightly higher capacity to absorb water compared to the same fraction of the concentrated pellet feed. Regarding the results of the tests at high temperatures (liquid assimilation and liquid penetration test), it can be concluded that the itabirite concentrate, which has lower contaminant content, favors the hot agglomeration process, increasing the sintering yield and physical resistance of the sinter, forming a structure with better distributed and spherical pores. From the pilot plant tests, it was observed that for Mix 2, containing the hematitic sinter feed and the pellet feed, with a high nucleating / adherent particle ratio (1,15), presented no productivity loss in relation to the reference phase, without concentrated pellet feed (Mix 1) - on the contrary, the productivity was higher than the reference phase. When there was a 30% pellet feed participation in the mixture, without, however, changing the particle size curve (Mix 3 in relation to Mix 1), the productivity was at the same level in relation to the reference phase indicating that the consumption of concentrate does not interfere negatively on the sintering productivity when the grain size of the ore blend is not changed. On the other hand, when there was a reduction in the ratio of coarse particles to fine particles (as it was the case with Mix 4 relative to Mix 1), productivity tended to be reduced, so that the 10% increase in fraction < 0.150mm resulted in a productivity loss of approximately 8%. Regarding the quality of the pilot sinter, by the metallurgical tests (RI and RDI), the sinter with the best result was the one with the highest amount of concentrate and the lowest nucleant / adherent ratio (Mixture 4), which presented lower sintering speed and lower content. of contaminants.
